DRAWING ELIE SAAB DRESS – BLACK LACE + CRYSTALS
Hey there! So far, this is one of the most popular tutorials on FSketcher’s YouTube channel. I decided to create an article, in which you can learn more about drawing an A-line dress. Drawing those hems will be much easier with the instructions given below. Moreover, now you can download a cute template for this class?

STEP 1 – SKETCH PREPARATION
In Step 2, we are going to color Elie Saab S’15 Couture dress. You can download a fashion template that I’ve prepared for this lesson by clicking on the image below.
STEP 2 – SKETCH RENDERING
In the next video, I am showing how to render Elie Saab dress with markers and pencils. After watching it, you will learn how to show the shading on an A-line skirt and how to draw embellishment on that particular design✨
This design has a boat neck and transparent close-fitting bodice. As a result, you can follow the body shape when drawing the garment. Just add some ease at the waist.
The dress consists of a large amount of fabric that is gathered in the waistline. Therefore, you need to show some volume in that area by drawing the outline of the dress (red) apart from the body outline (black). Moreover, several folds should be added as shown below.
3. SKIRT SHAPE
The overall shape of the skirt resembles a bluebell. The voluminous skirt widens as it approaches the hemline.
* Pay attention to how the back folds are drawn higher than the front folds. You can draw a curve (violet) as a guideline.
Usually, skirts made of stiff fabric have only a few big folds. The shape of a hemline depends not only on the quality of a fabric but also on the length of a skirt. Let’s take a look at these three examples.
In this case, the structure of the skirt is very stiff and its length does not exceed the classic floor length.
In this example, the skirt slightly exceeds the floor length.
Here, the skirt has 3 main folds too, but it has a long tail at the back. To show that, you should draw extra horizontal folds on the sides.
Finally, pay attention at how the folds are defined by two lines on both sides (red).
STEP 3 – DESIGN PROJECT
If you are inspired by the end of this class, then my mission is complete. Now it is your turn to showcase your skills? You can submit your own design or an illustration of this dress in a comment section below.
